Our Story

Organic used to mean beige. We had other ideas.

In the summer of 2019, Erin was on a beach vacation with her four-month-old son, Timo, when it happened. She knew Timo had MSPI — a milk protein allergy — and had been carefully avoiding dairy. But the bread she ate that day had milk in it. She didn’t know until it was too late. For the next five nights, she watched him wail. Squirm. Go red with a discomfort she couldn’t undo fast enough. There was nothing to do but wait — seven long days for her body to clear what was hurting him.
Every mother has a moment that changes her. That was Erin’s.
From that point forward, she became fiercely, obsessively intentional about everything that touched Timo’s body. He had food allergies. He had eczema. His skin was sensitive in ways that made every fabric choice matter. She searched for textiles that were certified organic, genuinely soft, and — because she is a devoted lover of art and interiors — actually beautiful. What she found was a market full of worthy intentions and a wall of beige.
Meanwhile, her dear friend and future co-founder, Ro, had spent her career at the highest levels of American fashion — from Saks to Tommy Hilfiger, Marc Jacobs, and Diane von Furstenberg. Creative, spirited, and constitutionally incapable of sitting still, Ro had been studying the children’s market carefully. What she saw was a white space so obvious it was almost startling. She picked up the phone and called Erin.
Erin had the personal urgency. Ro had the professional vision. They had known each other for seventeen years, dreamed of building something together, and driven each other completely crazy in the most loving way possible. This was the one. Together, they built the brand they couldn’t find anywhere.

Honoring nature.

Timo is Finnish for “to honor.” Violet is a name rooted in the natural world. Together, a quiet declaration that runs through everything we make.

Look closely at our logo and you’ll find them both. A small child perched on a branch, gazing upward in wonder at a magnificent peacock. That child is Timo — Erin’s son, the reason this brand exists. The peacock is Violet — the brand’s spirit, its beauty, its wild and living heart. They’ve been there from the very beginning, together on a branch, before a single word was read.

Every print begins as a painting.

Every collection starts not in a design studio, but in the hands of a woman artist somewhere in the world. Each original watercolor is commissioned exclusively for Timo & Violet, inspired by the places, cultures, and natural moments that stir a sense of wonder. No licensed artwork. No stock prints. Every design is made only for us — and only for you.

In the Tropical Chinoiserie collection, Violet the peacock made her first appearance. In the luminous depths of Under the Sea lives Indigo the Octopus. Larkin the Lion holds court in the joyful chaos of Musical Jubilee. Marlow the Monkey swings through the warmth of Happy Monkey. And Finley the Fox moves quietly through the enchanted Alsatian Forest.

These are not prints. They are worlds. And soon, children will be able to hold them — as five hand-crafted dolls made in Peru, each one a character who has always lived inside the paintings, waiting to come home.

Considered from the inside out.

The fabrics are crafted from the softest certified organic fibers, produced in premier ateliers in Portugal and artisan workshops in India — all chosen for exceptional craftsmanship and responsible manufacturing. Erin and Ro visit both. They have strong opinions at both. They have had spirited conversations over a glass of wine at Paris hotel bars on the way home from trade shows, and wouldn’t have it any other way.

Every seam, every finish, every lining is thought through from the inside out. Not because it looks good on a label. Because it matters to a mother dressing a child with sensitive skin.

"The soft lining in the dress, free from seams and potential scratchiness, is EVERYTHING. It’s a very thoughtful touch."
— Vya’s mom, a Timo & Violet customer

Mothers deserve softness too.

The same certified organic fibers. The same original artwork. The same obsessive attention to how something feels from the inside. Now extended to the woman herself — in pajamas and bathrobes that stand entirely on their own.

For the woman who notices the lining. Who remembers every birthday of her friends’ children. Who gives the most considered gift in the room and makes it look effortless. For the grandmother who arrives like she owns the room — because after everything she’s built, she does. Timo & Violet is for both of them. It always has been.

Not initiatives. Just how we do things.

Certified organic fibers. Compostable packaging. No single-use plastics. In December 2023, Timo & Violet became a certified B Corp — a reflection not of aspiration, but of the way the brand has operated from the very beginning.

Because a mother who spent seven days watching her son suffer decided she would always do things this way. With complete care, from the very first detail.

Every order lays down roots for tomorrow.
