Caring for Your Heirloom Gifts

Caring for Your Heirloom Gifts

Beautifully made pieces are meant to be loved—and lived in. We like to avoid the toxic stuff and care for our Timo & Violet favorites so they can be enjoyed for years to come. We subscribe to gentle cleaning without harsh chemicals. Safer for you and your heirloom gifts.

Check Out These Tips for the Toughest Summer Stains

  1. Sunscreen Stains on Swimwear
Mineral sunscreen can sometimes leave residue. Before washing, apply a small amount of plant-based dish soap, like Seventh Generation Free & Clear, directly to the stain and gently massage it in. Wash immediately in cold water and air dry.
  2. Berry Stains
As soon as possible, rinse the stain under cold running water. Dab with a mixture of one part distilled white vinegar and two parts water, then sprinkle a little baking soda over the area to gently lift the stain. Wash with a plant-based detergent; we like this one from Branch Basics
  3. Removing Odors
Soak for 30 minutes in cool water with ½ cup distilled white vinegar, then launder with a fragrance-free, plant-based detergent like Attitude Unscented Laundry Detergent
  4. Grass Stains
Create a paste with baking soda and water, gently work it into the stain using a soft toothbrush, and let it sit for 15 minutes. Rinse, then wash on cold with a gentle detergent. For stubborn stains, a little castile soap, like Dr. Bronner's Unscented, can help lift the remaining green pigments.
  5. Ice Cream, Yogurt & Chocolate
Remove excess with a spoon, rinse with cold water, then treat with a little castile soap or a gentle enzyme-free stain remover before laundering. Cold water is key—heat can set dairy stains.

Always Skip bleach, optical brighteners, and fabric softeners, which can break down natural fibers over time. Never use hot water until the stains are completely gone.
Whenever possible, line dry in the sun—sunlight naturally helps freshen fabrics and brighten whites.
